The Expanded Meeting of the Industrial Hemp Special Committee of China Bast and Leaf Fibers Textile Association Convenes in Shanghai
On the afternoon of August 24, the expanded meeting of the Industrial Hemp Special Committee of China Bast and Leaf Fibers Textile Association (hereinafter referred to as CBTA) hosted by China Bast and Leaf Fibers Textile Association was held in Shanghai. Ma Zhihui, President of CBTA, together with more than 20 representatives from member enterprises including Shanxi Oasis, Hubei Jinghua, Qingdao Hantai and Wuhan Industrial Hemp attended the meeting. Tian Hongsheng, Chairman of the Industrial Hemp Special Committee, presided over the meeting.
The meeting conducted in‑depth exchanges on the current status of industrial hemp planting, fiber processing, production and market performance. Participants discussed existing market challenges such as the lack of fiber standards on the industrial‑hemp raw‑material supply side and the sale of counterfeit and shoddy industrial‑hemp products via online channels. These market issues have exerted adverse impacts on the sound and sustainable development of the industrial‑hemp industry. CBTA will carry out targeted work to address these problems in the follow‑up stage.Technical exchanges and upstream‑downstream matchmaking sessions were also arranged during the meeting. Sun Kai, Deputy County Magistrate of Huma County, Heilongjiang Province, together with principals from Jiangsu Nimida and Guangzhou Exception, held business matchmaking with industrial‑hemp enterprises, which was well‑received by all attendees.In his concluding remarks, President Ma stated that as a major global base for industrial‑hemp cultivation, production and processing, as well as a market with considerable consumption potential, China boasts a solid industrial foundation and first‑mover advantages. It is imperative for China to gain discourse power within the industry.He proposed improving relevant standards and building a full‑industry‑chain traceability framework covering industrial‑hemp cultivation and fiber processing, intermediate products such as industrial‑hemp yarns and fabrics, through to end‑use segments including apparel and home textiles, so as to develop China’s own traceability and certification system. He expressed the hope that enterprises engaged in industrial‑hemp raw‑material planting, fiber processing, textile manufacturing and end‑product production, together with universities and research institutes, would take an active part in the initiative to seize the initiative for the sound and sustainable development of China’s domestic industrial‑hemp industry.
